Major General Rhett R. Cox currently serves as the Commanding General of the United States Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Major General Rhett Cox commissioned through ROTC at the Virginia Military Institute as a Military Intelligence Officer in 1993. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute, a Master of Arts in Human Resources Management from Webster University, and Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College. He is a graduate of the Military Intelligence Basic and Advanced Courses, the United States Army Command and General Staff College, and the National War College.
Major General Cox previously served as the Military Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, Army G-2. He also served as the first Commanding General, Army Counterintelligence Command, Fort Meade, MD. His assignments include Deputy Chief for Counterintelligence Integration, Strategic Competition Group, Defense Intelligence Agency, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C.; Inspector General, 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, NY; Commander, 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, NY; and served in various staff, instructional and leadership intelligence positions from platoon to division level.
His operational deployments include Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
Major General Cox's awards and decorations include the Army Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal (with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Legion of Merit (two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (Silver Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Secretary of Defense Identification Badge, Army Staff Identification Badge, Inspector General Identification Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Ranger Tab.
Major General Cox is married and has two children.
