Praetorian Symbolism

Symbolism: Stylized flag and a helmet facing to the right. The design includes a stylized United States flag with 13 light blue hashmarks with red and white stripes. The black and grey represent the Cyber Branch; and red and grey are prevalent to the domain we fight in. On the Great Seal of the United States the eagle faces to the left – towards the olive branches; the helmet image faces to the right because on the Great Seal of the United States it would be facing the arrows because the brigade is ‘everywhere and always in the fight’. There are also “war eagles” for colonel rank where the eagle is facing the arrows.

Background: The concept started in December 2018 when BG Brian Vile, the 5th commander of the 780th Military Intelligence Brigade (Cyber), felt the BDE SSI (shoulder sleave insignia) and Crest (which contains the Latin phrase “Ubique Et Semper In Pugna” – translated means “everywhere and always fighting”, hence the Brigade Motto “Everywhere and Always...In the Fight!”) needed a logo.
The Praetorian Guards were an elite unit of the Roman army and included hand-picked veterans from the Roman legions. The Soldiers and Army Civilians of the 780th MI BDE are the nation’s Praetorians, the royal guard of cyber domain. We operate in grey and red space and are the nation’s preeminent cyber force. The Praetorians join the “Vanguard” of the 781st Military Intelligence Battalion (Cyber); the “Cyber Legion” of the 782nd Military Intelligence Battalion (Cyber); the “Leviathans” of the 11th Cyber Battalion; the “Praetorians” of the Operations Support Element; and the “Hastati” of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 780th MI BDE.
Credit: Mr. Quintin Wilcox, BDE S6 Graphic Designer, designed the logo and it was approved on 18 July 2019. The Praetorian logo is prevalent throughout the Brigade and a symbol of our preeminence in the cyber domain.
