Welcome to the 470th Military Intelligence Brigade (Theater)

1. Congratulations on your assignment to the 470th Military Intelligence Brigade (Theater) and the Griffin Team! CSM Miranda and I welcome you and your Family as you get acquainted with the area and everything Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) has to offer.

2. The 470th MI Brigade-Theater (MIB-T) sets the theater for Intelligence for US Army South and US Southern Command by providing multi-disciplinary intelligence to obstruct and deter trans-regional threats and strengthen regional security through partnerships. Our units are located on both Fort Sam Houston and Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. As a member of the Griffin Team, we train every day to be fit, competent, resilient, and versatile to ensure our national security and help defend the homeland. 3. CSM Miranda and I encourage you and your Family to take the time to integrate into the unit and local community with the help of your sponsor. We highly encourage participation in our Soldier & Family Readiness Group (SFRG) events with your organization. Our SFRGs act as a network of support to all our single Soldiers, Families, and Civilians. In coordination with the JBSA Military and Family Readiness Centers (MFRC), we work together to ensure all personnel and our Families have access to the financial, employment, Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), and relocation resources to assist them while assigned to Joint Base San Antonio. Security Clearances:

Inbound Soldiers with foreign national spouses or cohabitants are strongly encouraged to contact the Brigade S2/SSO prior to clearing your current unit. 35 series MOS Soldiers with foreign national spouses or cohabitants MUST contact the BDE SSO prior to clearing your current unit. Soldiers in the following MOS series should contact their current S2/SSO to initiate Top Secret//SCI clearance prior to departure if time permits: 15 series, 25 series, 27 series, 29 series, 35 series, 36 series, 42 series, 46 series, 56 series, and 92 series. Once your housing arrangements are complete, see the S2/SSO to provide updated contact information to OPM-investigations. Soldiers with Top-Secret//SCI who are due for reinvestigation within one month of departure can choose to start their reinvestigation paperwork either before or after arrival to the 470th MI BDE.

It is absolutely imperative that you contact your gaining S2/SSO prior to clearing your unit, to ensure your clearance information is transferred from your losing unit.
